We're excited to celebrate Purim together this year and have been working hard to plan a festive holiday!
Mishloach Manot Ish L'Rei'eihu/Gifts for Friends
To increase joy and cheer, one person is required to receive two significant foods as gifts. Remember, the minimum obligation is to give to one person. As a general rule of thumb, it is better to spend more on matanot l'evyonim. Thank you to Elisheva Stark for her incredible efforts running CBS' mishloach manot project this year!
Matanot L'evyonim/Gifts for the Poor
The Talmud notes that those in need look to Purim eagerly as a day of respite from regular anxieties. As such, the custom is not to deny any person who asks for monetary gifts on Purim. The obligation is to provide enough money for a meal to at least two (2) individuals. It is better to give in your locale than elsewhere. This year, the clergy team will again be collecting funds to distribute on Purim Day to those in need right here in our community. Donations can be made to the Rabbi's discretionary fund via Venmo (@Barry-Dolinger), please write matanot l'evyonim in the subject line) or by handing the Rabbi a check made out to "Rabbi's Discretionary Fund." All funds must be given by the conclusion of Shacharit.
